Curtis Loves 35mm Film!


The major film studios have decided that they eventually want to stop renting all archival 35mm film prints entirely because there are so few revival houses left, and because digital is cheap and the cost of storing and shipping prints is high.

When I got to see Taxi Driver on film after seeing it on video and DVD probably like 20-30 times before, it was like seeing it for the very first time. The images looked like they were painted onto the screen. It was beautiful.

Yes, maybe HD projection would be just as beautiful, but can your local retro art house theater afford to purchase and maintain HD projectors? Is your local multiplex ever going to give up already scarce screen space for old movies or cult movies? No.
